Under the breastbone. So every single thing I was handed in nine years was aimed at the wrong floor of the building.
Under the breastbone. So every single thing I was handed in nine years was aimed at the wrong floor of the building.
Nose, throat, stomach. That was the whole list, and the list is why nothing ever changed. Here is what sits on the floor nobody sent me to, and the fifteen second check you can run tonight on a bottle already in your cupboard.

You answered it before you got to the end of that page. Under the breastbone. It comes up, it does not run down, and you have known that every morning for years.
Nobody asked you either. They asked how long you have had it, every single time. They asked what colour it was, once. Not one of them asked which direction it moves, the only question that would have changed the heading on your chart.
Mine was never changed. It still says drainage. The last thing an ENT with a scope in his hand said to me was this, and he said it kindly, which is somehow worse:
"Some people just produce more. Keep doing the rinse."
Fourteen months of the rinse were already behind me when he said it.
Let me say what I am after, because it is smaller than a page like this usually promises. Christmas morning, my daughter comes down the hall at seven and there is nothing for her to time. I am already at the table with the second cup of coffee, and the first thing out of my mouth is a sentence to another person instead of the hm-hm before you answer the phone.
What is on this page
- Sorted by what each item was aimed at, nine years stops looking like failure and starts looking like correct aim at the wrong floor.
- That floor has two shelves, one for the tube, one for the layer. My eleven minutes was made by a third thing on nobody's sheet.
- The oregano I bought in 2019 was never a failed trial. Turn your bottle over, look for a carvacrol figure. Fifteen seconds.
- Ninety days to send it back, because ninety days is how long the test takes. Nothing I was handed in nine years came with a promise attached.
Nine years, sorted by what each thing was aimed at
I did this at my kitchen table in January with a legal pad. Thirty-one years at a credit union means I cannot think about a thing without writing beside it what it does, not what I hoped.

Acts on tissue inside the nose. An ENT put a scope down mine and called it unremarkable, meaning there was nothing in there for a spray to act on.
Aimed at the nose. It starts under the breastbone.
Acts on an allergic response. I asked to see the allergist. The skin panel came back with two mild things and neither one was in my house.
Aimed at an allergy I do not meaningfully have.
A pink plastic pot on the corner of the sink, salt packets in a drawer. It washes the level above the problem.
Aimed above it. Fourteen months of aimed above it.
All three answer a question about below. Coming up from the stomach, pooling because of how I lie, arriving because of how I breathe.
Aimed below it.
The air in the room and the food on the plate. I was raised on dairy, so you can work out what eleven months of that was. None of it changes the lining.
Aimed at the room and the plate.
Five aims, not one at the place it starts.
I am not angry at five people who were kind to me. But somebody on a forum wrote that doctors do not sympathise with this because it is not serious and it will not kill you. That is it exactly. It takes the first hour of every day and there is no line on a chart for it.
The correct floor has two shelves, and my mornings were made by a third thing
The lining inside your airway is coated with mucus on purpose. It keeps dust off the tissue underneath, and it is meant to be a thin film. Tiny hairs called cilia sweep it upward all day and you swallow it without knowing.

Irritate that lining for years and the film turns into a coating. The cells multiply, the glands enlarge, and the escalator built to move a film gets overwhelmed and in patches worn down. Your first hour is you doing by hand what your body used to do while you slept.
Now hold two things apart, because everything sold here blurs the two. The tube is the width of the airway, and an inhaler widens it. Keep every prescription exactly as prescribed. The layer is the coating inside it, and an expectorant thins it.

Read the back of an expectorant box. It has told the truth in print the whole time, and nobody ever turns it over.
One opens the pipe. One thins what is already in it. Neither touches the irritation telling those glands to produce that much by four in the morning. That is the third thing, and it is on nobody's sheet.
What I read about, and the bottle I already owned
Carvacrol is the primary active in oregano oil, with a long research history as an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial compound. Thymoquinone is the primary active in black seed oil and has its own. Both act on the irritation side, not the tube and not the layer. Neither is a drug, neither is approved to treat anything in the lungs or sinuses, neither cures anything, and it sits beside every prescription you have and replaces none.
Which is where I nearly got it wrong. I bought oregano capsules in about 2019, took them a few weeks, felt nothing, and filed the idea under things that do not work. Reasonable, and wrong.
Carvacrol is fat soluble, so a dried leaf capsule is a different product from an oil in a softgel. And most cheap bottles print no carvacrol figure at all, because a number gets printed when it is worth printing.
So do not believe a word of mine yet. Find the oregano in your cupboard and read the panel. Not the milligrams of oregano. The carvacrol. You will almost certainly find 150 to 500mg of dried leaf and no carvacrol figure anywhere.
The one I take is Veylor. Wild oregano oil at 6,000mg with cold-pressed black seed oil in the same lipid softgel, carvacrol and thymoquinone stated on the label as figures. Hold the two panels side by side on your counter. That is not my claim, it is two printed labels, and you already own one of them.
Ninety days, honestly, including the part that sells nothing
Nothing. Expect nothing. This is where most people quit and decide it was another bottle of nonsense. Two softgels a night, every night.
Where the first change shows up if it is going to. Not a good morning, a shorter one. Eight minutes instead of eleven, small enough that only somebody counting would catch it.
The pattern rather than any one morning. You stop building the first hour around a sink, and on some Tuesday you notice you have not thought about it once.
That is why the guarantee runs ninety days and not thirty. Thirty refunds you before the test has finished running. Keep every prescription exactly as prescribed the whole way through.

Now the part where I read you the terms
I spent thirty-one years telling people to read the terms before they sign, so I will not make you hunt for them.
And I will say plainly what I am buying, because it is not less mucus. It is my daughter coming down the hall at seven on Christmas morning and finding me at the table with the coffee, nothing to time. It is answering the phone on the first ring, without the hm-hm first. It is getting up when my husband does, at eight.

The five things I would have asked, in the order I would have asked them
You are not overruling anybody. You are adding the question none of them asked. The nurse practitioner was not wrong about what post-nasal drip is, she was answering a question about drainage, and nobody ever tested whether you have any. Take it to your appointment, because that is the only place a heading gets changed. Answer it tonight, in your own kitchen.
It means nothing is wrong where he looked. Women write that same sentence on forums, nothing of note on the scope, then get sent round the same two floors for another year. Unremarkable is true about your sinuses. It is not the same sentence as there is nothing wrong with you.
Turn the old bottle over first. If it is 150 to 500mg of dried leaf with no carvacrol figure, that was a fraction of the strength, on a compound the label never claimed to measure. Not a stronger version of 2019. It would be the first time you tried it.
The catch is that it is a supplement and not a cure, that it does nothing for the first three weeks, and that some women will take it ninety days and get nothing. I said all three before the price.
Then you send it back inside the ninety days and you are out nothing but the ninety days. Set that against nine years on the wrong shelf, none of which came with a promise of any kind. It is the shortest honest test there is, and the only one anybody has offered to refund.
Why tonight, and not in March
Two reasons, neither of them a clock on a screen.
The first is the price. Wild oregano is harvested, not manufactured, and the carvacrol in a batch depends on the hillside it came off. The figure on the label belongs to that harvest, and the sixty percent is priced against the batch in the warehouse now.
The second is your own arithmetic. Eleven minutes is seventy seven minutes a week at a sink. Say your next appointment is in March, the way mine always was. That is two hundred mornings from tonight, more than thirty hours at that sink, waiting on a heading nobody has offered to change. A woman on a forum wrote that eleven years of this had worn her down a lot.
Then run it the other way. The ninety days cannot start until a pouch is in the house. Start this week and the test is done before the turkey goes in, and Christmas is either the morning she finds me at the table with the coffee, or one more she spends timing me from the doorway.
The coating is rebuilding tonight while you sleep, so tomorrow morning is already loaded. That is not a sales line, it is the mechanism.

Ninety days to send it back if nothing moves.
P.S. I kept the neti pot. It is in the cabinet under the sink and I have not used it since Christmas. Fourteen months of doing something twice a day that never had a chance of working is a thing I should not be allowed to forget.
P.P.S. I moved to the kitchen sink because it is further from the bedroom and my husband gets up at eight, and in two years I have never told him that is why I am up at six. If you moved rooms too, none of this needed explaining. You only needed somebody to tell you there were two aisles.
