She Wrote To Me At 4:52 In The Morning. In June She Posted At 9:14. That Gap Is The Whole Thing.

I said on the post that the rest was on the page. This is the rest. Roberta's entire seven year list, gone through item by item, and the fifteen second check you can run at your own cupboard before the light comes up.

By Dot Prendergast, age 62, Youngstown, OHSat. Jul. 25th, 2026 | 04:58 am EST
A dark bedroom before dawn
The messages arrive inside the same forty minute window every single day. Not because we are early risers. Because we are lying in the dark waiting for the moment we have to get up and go and do it.

Roberta's first message opened with an apology. "I'm sorry to message a stranger." Nine out of ten of them do. No woman has ever apologised to me for writing at a reasonable hour about anything else.

You do not say sorry to a stranger unless you have already decided the thing you are about to describe is yours alone, and slightly shameful, and nobody's business. Eleven hundred of us, same job, same forty minutes, all opening with sorry.

"I get up at 5.30 and I spend between ten and fifteen minutes at the sink and then I can start my day. My husband sleeps through it now, he used to ask if I was alright, he doesn't anymore, and I don't know which is worse. I'm 66. Is this what the rest of it is?"

You have been handed the beginning of enough of these, so here is the end of it first. Roberta started on the 3rd of February. In June she posted her own update in the group:

"Last Sunday I woke up at 6 instead of 4 because I wasn't lying there waiting for it."

She wrote that at 9:14 in the morning and pointed the timestamp out herself. A woman who used to write to me at 4:52 was writing at 9:14, from a kitchen, coffee already made. That is the part that made me cry at a kitchen table.

In the same post she wrote, "I am not cured. I still do it most days." I am leaving that in. Take it out and the rest of this is worth nothing.

What this page says

  • Two separate problems, the tube and the layer, and almost every item on your list is aimed at the tube.
  • Once the escalator that should carry the layer away is overwhelmed, the only mechanism left is force. Force is you, at the sink, before your day starts.
  • Carvacrol and thymoquinone act on the irritation side. Most oregano on a shelf is 150mg to 500mg and prints no carvacrol figure, so if you tried oregano and felt nothing, you never ran the test.
  • You can settle that yourself in fifteen seconds at your own cupboard, without trusting one word from a stranger who wrote back at 4:52.

How Many Minutes, And What Colour

The two questions I ask everybody now, and in eight years nobody in a white coat has asked me either one. Not because they are bad doctors. Because neither number goes anywhere on the form.

Roberta said ten to fifteen. Grey-green, thick, holds together, worse in winter.

You do not have to take my word for how ordinary that is. Women write it in the open, in the lung forums, to nobody in particular. One spends, her words, 10 minutes trying to cough it out over the bathroom sink, practically every morning for the past 2-3 years. Another, aged 75, takes about an hour to clear her lungs and then adds the truest line in any of it: "its the amount of time it takes which gets me down."

A bathroom sink in early morning light
Nobody has ever asked you for the number, which is why you have never said it out loud. Ten minutes is not a cough. It is an unpaid job with a start time.

The part nobody asks you about

  • You are awake before the alarm, and it is not that you slept badly. You are waiting.
  • You go to the bathroom first. Before the kettle, before the curtains, before a word to anybody.
  • Somebody used to ask if you were alright and has stopped asking, and you have never told a living soul that the stopping was worse.
  • There is a chest film that came back clear, and what you felt was not relief. It was closer to being caught out.
  • Somebody with letters after their name has told you this is just something you manage now.

A woman in one of those forums wrote that for about 5 years now she will, her words, hack and hack hiding in my bathroom so I wont annoy anyone. Nobody coordinated that. We all arrived at the same behaviour on our own, in separate houses, each of us certain she invented it.

Seven Years Of Buying Things, In Her Order

I asked Roberta what she had tried. Here is her list, all of it, because I promised her.

Rescue inhaler. Maintenance inhaler.

They open the pipe. That is real, it is fast, and you keep using them exactly as prescribed, today and every day after. They were never built to change what coats the inside.

Guaifenesin. The tablets, then the syrup, then the twelve-hour one.

Three escalations of one drug, which is what a person does when something nearly works. Read the back of your own box: it helps loosen phlegm and thin bronchial secretions to make coughs more productive. Loosen. Thin. Productive. Not one of those words is "less". More comes up this morning, and by tomorrow the glands have made more. A woman in a lung forum takes a prescribed thinner three times a day and adds, her words, it's not terribly effective though. That is not the drug failing. That is the drug keeping its promise.

A cool mist humidifier. Then a warm mist one. Then both.

Water thins what is already there, so this is the syrup's lever again, pulled by hand, all night. It makes force easier. It does not make force unnecessary.

Steam over a pot. Mullein tea. Thyme.

This is the part of the list nobody addresses, and it is why half of you have already made up your mind about this page. You were not wrong to reach for a plant. You reached holding nothing measured. A cup of infusion states no amount of any active compound, and there is no panel on the back of a jar of thyme. Mullein did not fail you. You were never handed a dose to judge.

A neti pot for eight months. A nasal steroid spray for over a year.

Both work in the nose. If the layer sits in the airway below, that is a perfectly good product at the wrong address, used faithfully, for nearly two years.

An open cabinet of opened medicine boxes and bottles
Seven years of good faith, and every item on it did exactly the job it was sold to do. Stop counting the receipts and count the levers instead, and the whole shelf collapses into two columns.

A wedge pillow, and then a second one on top of it.

Gravity. It stops the layer pooling at the back of the throat overnight, so it relocates the load and costs you the way you used to sleep. It reduces nothing.

A percussion cup her daughter bought online.

Her daughter understood the mechanism better than most people manage. It applies force more efficiently. It is still force, and it is still Roberta applying it at 5:30.

Two courses of antibiotics, and a chest X-ray in 2021 that came back clear.

She was told the clear film was good news. Her word for how it felt was that it made her feel like a liar. An X-ray shows structure, not the condition of a lining. Being told nothing is wrong while you spend a quarter of an hour a day at a sink is not good news. It is a filing error.

Fifteen items. Seven years. Not one minute of improvement. A woman in one of those forums, having listed her own fifteen, ended her post with the line this page exists to answer: "Just wish somebody could connect the dots."

Opening a pipe does not clean the inside of it.

The Two Levers, As Dorothy Wrote Them

The first lever is the tube. Muscle wraps the airway, it tightens, the pipe narrows, an inhaler relaxes it and the pipe opens back up. Dorothy was extremely firm here and so am I: keep every prescription exactly as prescribed, and do not let anything you read on a page like this change one thing your doctor has told you.

The second lever is the layer. Years of irritation, the mucus cells multiply, the glands enlarge, the film becomes a coating, and the cilia built for a film get overwhelmed and in patches stop beating. The escalator stops, and one mechanism is left.

Force. Force is the sink. Force is the ten to fifteen minutes. Force is why eleven hundred women are awake at 4:52 in the morning.

Illustration of cilia lining an airway
Built to run all night without you noticing once. A woman with lifelong bronchiectasis described what is left when it stops as a lot of furious effort on my part for little effect. She was describing your 5:30.

Now go back over those fifteen items holding that. Every one widens the tube, thins the fluid, or helps you apply force more comfortably. Dorothy's phrasing was that we had all spent years bailing a boat, and nobody had ever gone looking for the hole.

So What Is Aimed At The Irritation

If the layer is a response to irritation, the only lever with a chance of changing it acts on the irritation itself. Not the width of the pipe. Not the thickness of the fluid. Not our technique at the sink, which most of us have become extremely good at.

Carvacrol is the primary active in oregano oil. Thymoquinone is the primary active in black seed oil, nigella sativa. Both have a genuine research literature as anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial compounds.

Neither is a drug. Neither is approved to treat any lung condition. Neither one cures anything, and if you find a page telling you a supplement cures a lung condition, leave that page. What these two do is act on the side not one of Roberta's fifteen items was ever pointed at.

Why The Oregano In Your Cupboard Did Nothing

Half the group had already tried oregano and felt nothing. I had. Two bottles, both around 400mg, neither printing a carvacrol content anywhere on the label.

Dorothy's rule was blunt. Most oregano capsules on a shelf sit between 150mg and 500mg and many will not state the carvacrol at all. Testing costs money and a company prints the number it wants to advertise. If it is not on the panel, do not give them the benefit of the doubt.

Which puts my two bottles in the same column as Roberta's mullein tea. Not a failed trial. A trial that never ran.

A hand reading the small print on the back panel of a box
Two back panels settle the argument and neither one belongs to me. Loosen, thin, productive on the expectorant box. And on the old oregano bottle, a milligram figure for the herb and no carvacrol number anywhere, because it was never measuring the thing that does the work.

The fifteen second check, before you decide anything

  • Get whatever expectorant is in the cupboard and read the back panel. Find the line about making coughs more productive.
  • If there is an old oregano bottle behind the vitamins, turn it over and look for a carvacrol number. There will not be one.

Neither one asks you to trust a stranger at five in the morning. In four years, the women who ran those two checks stopped arguing with themselves inside a minute.

The One Dorothy Uses, And The One I Use Now

It is called Veylor. Wild oregano and black seed oil in the same lipid softgel. What makes it the one she uses is not the name on the front, it is the panel on the back. 6,000mg per serving with the carvacrol and thymoquinone content stated on the label. Not a proprietary blend, not a figure you email somebody for. Printed, in numbers, so you can hold it against the bottle in your own cupboard without taking my word for any of it.

Two softgels at night with water. At night, because the layer rebuilds while you sleep, which is why the worst of it is already waiting before you open your eyes. It is not a drug, it cures nothing, and it sits alongside everything you already take, all of which you keep taking exactly as prescribed.

The only difference that matters is the one you are allowed to read for yourself before you spend anything. A number on the panel, not a claim on the front.

What The First Ninety Days Looks Like

I will not tell you week one is anything, because it is not, and half this group quits things at three weeks.

Weeks 1 to 3

Nothing. Genuinely nothing, and this is where women stop. Roberta: "Week 1, nothing. Week 2, nothing, and I nearly stopped."

Weeks 4 to 6

Where a first change shows up if it is going to, and it is almost never dramatic. It is administrative. "Week 4, I noticed I hadn't put the fan on."

Weeks 7 to 11

The order of the morning changes before the length of it does. "Week 7, I got to the kitchen before it started instead of doing it first." Then: "Week 11, I have had four mornings this month where I didn't go to the bathroom first at all."

And after that

"I am not cured. I still do it most days." Then the timestamp. Six instead of four, because she was not lying there waiting for it. That is the honest size of it.

Write your two numbers down on day one. Minutes, and colour. In twelve weeks you want to be reading a note in your own handwriting, not arguing with a memory at 5:30 in the morning.

The Three Ways It Comes

Before the prices, the thing all of this is actually for. It is a morning where the bathroom is not the first room you enter, where nobody in that house has to sleep through anything, where the phone stays on the nightstand at ten to five because you are asleep. And if you do write to me it is at 9:14, from a kitchen, with the coffee already made.

Most of us in that group have already been sold something expensive by somebody confident, which is why the return window matters here more than you would think. Ninety days, money back, clock starting the day it arrives, and the same ninety on all three sizes. Thirty would ask you for a verdict while there is still nothing to look at.

Why This Morning And Not Some Other Morning

Two honest reasons, and neither is a clock ticking on a screen.

The price is the first. Wild oregano is harvested, not manufactured, and how much carvacrol a batch carries depends on the hillside it came off and the summer it had. A lot gets tested, the number goes on the panel, and that number belongs to that lot. The 60% sits on the lot in the warehouse now, not on the next one.

The second reason is yours, and it is arithmetic you already do in the dark. Twelve minutes a morning is an hour and a half a week. A month of thinking about it is roughly six hours standing at that sink. And the ninety days cannot begin until a box arrives at your door, so every week you wait pushes the week four morning back a week as well.

The band of messages starts again at ten to five tomorrow. I would rather you were not in it.

What She Asked Me Next, And What Everybody Asks

I already did the plant thing. Mullein tea for months. Thyme. Steam with a towel over my head. Why is oregano any different?

Because those carried no number and this one does. A cup of infusion states no amount of any active compound and has no panel to read, so there was never anything for you to judge. The difference is not that oregano is a better plant. It is 6,000mg with the carvacrol and thymoquinone printed where you can check it before you buy.

You said no ads, no business, no brand. Then there is a link. That is exactly how it always goes.

You are right to say it and I would think less of you if you did not. I do not work for Veylor, I have never taken a payment from any company, and there are no ads in that group and there never will be. I take it, Dorothy takes it, Roberta takes it. If that makes you trust this less then I understand completely, and the answer is not to trust me. It is to read your own label this morning and make up your own mind.

I am on two inhalers and a steroid spray. I am not putting something new in my mouth without knowing.

Good. Do not. It is a supplement, not a drug, and it sits alongside those rather than in place of any of them. Keep every prescription exactly as prescribed. If you are on a blood thinner or have surgery coming, ask the pharmacist before the first softgel, and mention it at your next appointment the way you would a vitamin.

Seven years. If seven years of things has not moved it, what is a capsule going to do at week four?

Seven years of things aimed at two levers, with the third never in the house. That is not the same as seven years of trying everything. Weeks one to three will be nothing and I want you braced for it, because that is where women decide. The first change lands in weeks four to six, quietly.

And if it does nothing for me?

Ninety days, money back, clock starting at delivery. Your two numbers on day one against your two numbers at the end, and if the minutes have not moved you send it back and you are not out anything. That is the only reason I am comfortable putting a price on this page at all.

Two softgels at night. Ninety days to decide. Every prescription stays exactly as prescribed.

You are not managing anything. You are doing an unpaid job every morning that nobody has ever helped you with.

Dot Prendergast, age 62, Youngstown, OH.
I run a group of about eleven hundred women with long-term chest and cough problems. Not a business, not a brand, no ads in it, and there never will be.

P.S. Roberta let me quote her because, and I am quoting this too, "if it saves one woman a year of this, put it all in." So I have, including the part where she is not cured and still does it most days. She gave you seven years of her list so you would not have to spend seven years assembling your own.

P.P.S. The timestamps are the thing I cannot get over. Four years, and the messages arrive inside the same forty minute window every day, from women all over this country who have never met, all waiting for the same moment, every one convinced she is the only one who does this. You are inside that window right now, with the phone already in your hand, and there is no better moment than the one you are actually in.
